Dealing with Temptation Effectively
"My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience." James 1: 2-3
"Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him." James 1: 12
Every child of God will be tempted by our adversary (Satan) and has been tempted. Just because we (you) are saved, it does not exclude us from being tempted. Temptation itself is not sin, it's when we yield to the temptation that it becomes sin. We cannot keep temptation from to us, but we can keep it from settling in our hearts. We are in control of that part, God has given us power to help us overcome this device of the enemy (Satan). All we have to do is yield to the Spirit of God.
"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man" James 1: 13
I. The Chief Agent of Temptation:
A. He tricked into eating of the forbidden fruit. Gen. 3:1-6; II Cor.11:3
B. He (The Tempter) came to Jesus after he had fasted for forty days and nights, tempting him. Matt. 4:1-4
C. Don't let Satan take advantage of you. II Cor. 2:11
D. Never put yourself in a compromising position.
II. When You are Tempted:
A. Count it all joy. James 1:2
B. Believe you can overcome it. Phil. 4:13
C. Realize that you can trust God. I Cor. 10:13
D. When it seems to get the best of you, realize that it's for your good. Romans 8:28
E. Be aware that you are not the only one being tempted. Hebrews 2:18
F. Your temptation is a test. James 1:3
G. There is a reward for enduring. James 1:12
H. God will not tempt you. James 1:13
I. Be confident that the Lord will see you through. II Peter 2:9
J. If you keep the WORD, the Lord will keep you. Rev. 3:10
So when you are tempted, get deep in the Word and hold on for life. The Lord will be there to fight for you and help you to stand. Get you a song of deliverance and sing to the glory of God.
" The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." Exodus 14:14
